Come play with us!

Green Mountain Children’s Museum is looking for fun-loving and dedicated volunteers to share their time and talents by joining our growing team of amazing volunteers. You can help families create, play and learn together!

What Can I Do To Help?

First of all, you can Volunteer. We have all kinds of opportunities: event-based or ongoing, behind the scenes or community-friendly. Here are just a few:

  • Fun Facilitator: Basically, you get to play with kids! (And be a big kid yourself…) Our next event is Burlington Kids Day on Saturday, May 15th at the Burlington Waterfront, and we’ll be back again this year with more great exhibits! You could help out at the Take-Apart Table, keep the open-ended crafts area (relatively) neat, or “ooh” and “aah” over the children’s ideas of what a block barn can be. And if you’d like to help answer parents’ questions about the children’s museum, we’re more than happy to bring you up to speed.

  • Exhibit Committee Member Extraordinaire: This fun group gets to plan the ultimate visitor experience, both at our community events and for the museum itself. They’ve been working on the Exhibit Master Plan, and they also put together hands-on exhibits for events, research children’s museum best practices, and are responsible for making sure that all of our visitors have a valuable, educational, but most of all FUN experience! Community outreach events like Kids Day and First Night allow us to test our exhibit ideas using prototypes. Creativity and knowledge of child development are preferred but not required. (P.S.: Being a parent or caregiver automatically qualifies you for this volunteer job!)

  • Online Research Guru: Do you like to work behind the scenes? You can help us on an as-needed basis when we’re looking for the latest and greatest information. One week you could be researching exhibit storage practices, the next it could be museum software. As we progress through the stages of creating this children’s museum, there will be plenty of opportunity to learn!

  • Fundraising (Do-I-Have-To-Ask-For-Money) Committee Member: As we get closer to determining a location, the Fundraising Committee will really get its groove on! We will be asking the Vermont community and beyond to help us in any way they can. Some will give a lot, some a little, but everyone will need to be thanked graciously. Come help us with our fundraising plan, and watch our thermometer grow! (Or maybe come up with another idea besides a thermometer . . .)

If these opportunities sound like fun to you, contact me: Sue Hale volunteer@gmcm.org and tell me how you’d like to help.

Second, you can Donate. We can’t do it without you!

Third, you can
Get someone else involved. Do you know someone who would be a great addition to our volunteer team? Someone who:

  • Loves children’s museums?
  • Enjoys the cameraderie of working with others for a positive change in the community?
  • Wants to make a difference?
  • Owns a business and would like to be a sponsor or donate materials?

Tell us about them! Better yet, suggest that they Contact Us!
